Original Song Submissions & Studio Preparation

Greetings Young Musicians & Composers,

I’m beyond excited for this group of talented musicians. I’ve had the pleasure of hearing some of you write your own songs and putting them out into the musical stratosphere. The ultimate goal for this group is to get you into the studio and record your original songs.

Yes, this group may look different from others because, in my opinion, creating a song from scratch is far more challenging than performing someone else’s music. That’s what makes your work so special and unique.

With that being said, many of you have been asked to submit your lyrics and musical material. It’s important that you do this on time so we can begin arranging, refining, and preparing your tracks for the studio.

It’s vital that you are documenting and organizing your materials. When it’s time for us to go into the studio, we won’t have the luxury of figuring things out on the spot. Your lead sheet needs to be clear and readable. When I look at your paper, I need to see the time signature, the number of bars, and how many times specific riffs are played in the song.

Vocalists: Your lyrics must be typed and clearly labeled with parts such as verse, chorus, bridge, etc. You also need to record yourself singing each part so I can become familiar with your melodies, help create additional layers of harmony, and provide expert feedback on your harmonic structure.

It is imperative that these tasks are completed before next Wednesday. Don’t let this preparation slip—performing your music live without clear notes is frustrating and can make your songs sound incomplete.

In addition to the studio recording, depending on your progress, I’d like to feature your originals at our January 17th showcase, giving you the opportunity to perform in front of a live audience. Food for thought: we could even create a small album of your originals and potentially sell it—hmm… exciting, right?

I look forward to seeing your work and fine-tuning it together.

Best regards, Brandon
